Aievea music videoclips
Since I’m a member of Aievea band I take care of all the videos for the band. They all started as content for concerts but they did became to something like music videoclips. Some of them more and some of them less.
The main thing I have to mention about this clips is that I enjoy doing them as a personal recreation since I am my own client. The versions for concert do evolve each time. I can’t stop tinkering around. And I also love to interconnect them. less talk and more video:

Opinia Publica
Tocmai ce a avut premiera si piesa Opinia publica la teatrul din sibiu. Este una din piesele cele mai solide conceptual la care am lucrat pana acum si sunt foarte fericit cu ce am reusit sa producem. A fost una dintre putinele piese la care toata lumea de la scenografie pina la muzica, regie, coregrafie a tras tare. nu a avut timp nimeni de politici, de cine isi impune ideea lui preferata sau cine ce credit isi ia. Toata lumea pur si simplu a dat si cristi a reusit sa imbine toate elementele ceea ce nu e usor. Cred ca este o piesa completa.

the anniversary of 50 years. Romanian national television. long and strange history. For the event I was in charge of the whole video starting from the tv screens at the entrance, to the projections on the television tower, from the visuals made live to the reel of 2007 season. It was a great project and it remained a cornerstone in the events landscape and it was all possible because of the team : dragos buhagiar (stage designer) and vlaicu golcea (sound)
urma – a place for me
the video came as a response to the romanian political turmoil of summer 2007, the 322 referendum (parliament vs president)
“The artist Daniel Gontz has realized it as response/ statement against the serious turmoil during the summer 2007 resulting from the impeachment referendum of the then President of the Republic Traian Basescu.(2) In the video there is the spotless and evident disapproval of the Romanian artistic world in front of those facts and events: at the beginning, on the background of the images, it is visible the table lamp designed by Vlad Nanca (with the inevitable pop-stylized forms of the Dacia) and then a photographic work by Gontz himself as a reply/homage to a piece of the group subREAL (formed, in the Nineties, not only but also by Calin Dan and Dan Mihaltianu); the video finishes with the gallerist Dan Popescu, who brutally breaks down the Television of State with a hammer. ”

vama veche – la radio
after the successful last concert of Vama Veche as a band where I delivered the visuals, I shot the last video of the band. It was a fun experience especially the part shot on phone camera.

The blue spots signalize the aesthetic earthquake that has been shaking the Romanian cities for the past 15 years. The elements involved in this cataclysm are noiseproof window panes, rigips, sandstone, the residual space left behind by the communist urbanism, a plethora of glass facades, fractions of the television’s visual culture, euphoric demolitions, cages for bodyguards, plastic plants, black marble, adornments made of stainless metal and ideas about architecture that defy any norm by means of which a city exists and develops usually. It felt imperative that I react to the suffocating ugliness of numerous buildings that were constructed in these last few years.
The spots indicate danger and I believe that the peril of aesthetical degradation is just as menacing as the risk of an earthquake. The red spots tell you to stay away, the blue ones urge you to take a stand.

The performance suggests a contamination between the different times of recent history, an ambiguous gesture that can cause panic or joy, an attempt at reviving the tissue of the city affected by necrosis, an advertising campaign for a missing product, a question about solidarity in the torpid Romania of 2007.

new site and blog and server
ok, so we changed the server. The vienna server was getting old and slow and I decided to move to a new server in bucharest. Sadly things did not go acording to the plan. the export function of the blog did not work correctly and I got out only the old blog post till 2008. So, 2 years of blog posts got lost and as my old server is not anymore online , those posts are lost…
I will also promise to be faster with the updates.

“The remake of the two photographs closes, in a sense, an era: it renders the model classical by the fact that it has triggered a reproduction. It forces the previous generation into a “master” status, untouchable but also distant. Gontz’s maneuver simulates the canon – first reproduced, then pushed away through acts of differentiation. “

“A project that interrogates contemporary forms of knowledge production and distribution. It also indicates the rather unflattering fact that these processes today resemble knowledge marketing. “Knowledge is power” has been interpreted differently in recent years, after Lyotard’s statement that knowledge and power are “two sides of the same question”. In Gontz’s manipulated photographs of supermarkets, the product types have been re-labeled as academic disciplines. And we can safely assume that the giant retail store is surrounded by smaller ones, trading in niche forms of knowledge and all sorts of specialist products – the new delicatessen of thought. The supermarkets suggest that forms of production and division of knowledge proliferate today in accordance with maps not necessarily academic, with new interests, instruments and criteria, that the gap between radicality and advertising progressively diminishes..”

The project of a virtual traveling agency is an ironic analysis of the Romania political scene and of its reflection in the media. Our proposal of a political tourism agency is similar to the extreme sport tours or the cultural traveling packages. We address to those who wish to witness and experiment the transition from communism to democracy, the development of democracy and how the transition actually feels like. Surely all this is purely fictional and this agency is solely an art project.
